The 2001 Canadian
Othello Championships were held at the Colony Hotel in downtown
Toronto on October 6th. Only 8 players showed up, so we
decided to have a round-robin. Disks were used for a tiebreak.
The results after 7 rounds:
1. Tim Krzywonos 7.0/7 313 disks
2. Masato Konnai 4.5/7 257 disks
3. Jacky Fu 4.0/7 261 disks
4. Larry Back 4.0/7 252 disks
5. Marc Corio 3.0/7 214 disks
6. Kase Chow 3.0/7 182 disks
7. Kensuke Ibata 2.5/7 233 disks
8. Erik Renaud 0/7 90 disks
We then had a semi finals, finals and 3/4 match to determine who
would be going to New York for the World Championship. Masato
Konnai said he would not compete for Canada, this allowed Marc Corio
access to the semi's.
Semi-final 1:
Tim Krzywonos 56-8 Marc Corio
Semi-final 2:
Jacky Fu 46-18 Larry Back
Final:
Tim Krzywonos 35-29 Jacky Fu
3/4 match:
Larry Back 34-30 Marc Corio
Tim Krzywonos, Jacky Fu and Larry Back will attend the World
Championships in New York. However, Larry must see if he can
get time off of work -- if he cannot, Marc Corio will take his
place.
