Return to Clawfford's Game Room

The pod.ini file in your Monster Truck Madness 2 folder tells the game what tracks and trucks to load.  Adding tracks or trucks  to your game is called "podding".

By default, Windows hides file name extensions. You might only see a file called pod in your MTM2 folder instead of pod.ini. This is okay, since there are no other files named "pod".

There might have been files called pod.hlp, or pod.txt, or pod.cfg, or any number of possibilities. With the file name extensions turned off, how would you know which pod was which? Let's turn 'em on!

1)
Open My Computer.
2)
Depending on your version of Windows, pull down either the Tools menu or the View menu, and select Folder Options.
3)
Click the View tab.
4)
Scroll down and UNcheck "Hide extensions for known file types".
5)
Click OK.

Double-click pod.ini to open it. It should look something like this:

You can MANUALLY edit the pod.ini to add or remove tracks and trucks. Simply add the new pod name to the end of the list, and increase the number at the top of the list by 1. The number at the top must ALWAYS equal the total number of pod files in the list, or you will get an error message that suggests you might need to reinstall the game.  (As noted in the picture above, DELETE the extra "garbage" character from the bottom of your pod.ini list.)

Tracks and trucks must be located in your Monster Truck Madness 2 folder for pod.ini to find them!

Better yet,
download Podini.exe to AUTOMATICALLY handle this for you! Put Podini.exe in your Monster Truck Madness 2 folder. As noted in the picture above, DELETE the extra "garbage" character from the bottom of your pod.ini list and save your changes. When you double-click Podini.exe, you will be presented with a list of all the pod files that are in your Monster Truck Madness 2 folder. Simply put a check mark next to the track and truck files you want to install. (For your convenience, I fixed Podini.exe so that it appears at the top of your files when you sort them by name.)

Most add-on tracks and trucks will be compressed in "zip" format for faster downloading. They must be unzipped before pod.ini can read them. For help unzipping files, go here.

Every now and then, someone messes up their game when they incorrectly edit their POD.INI.  The game suggests that you may need to reinstall the game.  Forget that.  Just replace your POD.INI with a fresh copy from your CD.  If you can't find your CD, here's a clean copy of the game's Default POD.INI.
